SpaceX closes $40B of GPU debt and Musk calls for a 200-neocloud shakeout — the AI credit market is now formally two-tiered; SK hynix is reported to plan a Kioxia stake sale funding a ₩16T special dividend (Kioxia -2.3% this morning is the unpriced overhang); Anthropic's filing week opens with an en banc petition and a 5%-of-shares public benefit fund
Today in one sentence: No US session over the weekend, but the table for Wednesday 10/28's triple verdict (FOMC × Microsoft × SK hynix) is set — SpaceX closed $40B of GPU debt the same weekend Musk declared debt markets "almost entirely shut" to pure-play AI and called for a 200-neocloud shakeout; SK hynix is reported to be selling its Kioxia stake to fund a ₩16T special dividend, turning capital allocation into the main course of its earnings call; and Anthropic opened its filing week with an en banc petition and a 5%-of-shares public benefit fund while the public S-1 remains this week's open question.

1. SpaceX closes $40B of GPU debt while Musk calls for a 200-neocloud shakeout — the AI credit market is now formally two-tiered: IG borrowers with non-AI cash flows get IG pricing, pure-plays are shut out
What happened. Musk posted on X Sunday (Reuters, Bloomberg followed): SpaceX has closed $40B of debt financing to buy GPUs from Nvidia and others, with deliveries concentrated in 1Q-2Q 2027; he expects most of the debt repaid early with limited impact on Q4 results. SiliconANGLE (byline Mike Wheatley) reconstructs the details: the structure matches FT's Oct 7 report — roughly $10B of bank loans + $30B of investment-grade debt, Apollo leading, PIMCO participating. The quote is the signal itself: over the past few weeks debt markets have "almost entirely shut off" money for "any company that doesn't have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers." SpaceX got the money on an investment-grade rating plus Starlink/launch cash flows. He predicts consolidation — 200+ neoclouds face restructuring or wipeout.
Why it matters. This is AI credit tiering certified by the party that actually got paid. CNBC on Saturday published the first systematic decomposition of NVIDIA's exposure: as of the July quarterly filing, $36B of off-balance-sheet neocloud cloud-agreement backstops + up to $105B guaranteed for chips, land and power at OpenAI's proposed 10GW Ohio site + $20B of signed future data-center leases (Nvidia pays only on participant default in most cases). Meanwhile CRWV CDS spreads have blown past 11%, CRWV/NBIS/IREN are down 30%+ this month, Firmus pulled its IPO, and Nscale/SB Energy haven't updated their listings in weeks. One side (SpaceX) borrows $40B at IG prices; the other side funds at a standstill at 15-16% yields. Jensen Huang's weekend pitch of GPUs as "the lowest-risk" collateral now has a clear buyer list — and the list is narrowing.
Investment implications.①SpaceX's final terms (spread/maturity/amortization) are this week's most important non-earnings print — they calibrate the "IG spread vs 15%+" tiering gap;②if the 200-neocloud shakeout begins, CRWV/NBIS contract scarcity rises rather than falls (Anthropic's $600B+ commitment book can't find enough supply) — wipeout ≠ share loss, don't conflate the two;③the 10/28 FOMC stacks on top: with a December hike priced, the longest-duration AI assets are most exposed to credit-tiering hardening. Falsified by: SpaceX's deal printing as high-yield structure, or neocloud spreads snapping back to single digits post-FOMC.
